Bromley were on the wrong end of a 2-1 scoreline on Tuesday evening at Hayes Lane, when a very attacking Cheltenham Town side returned home with the points after an injury time winner.

The home side started the game brightly and wasted several chances to go ahead in the opening twenty minutes or so, but Cheltenham showed why they are second in the League table, as they withstood the pressure and proceeded to dominate the remainder of the game.

After just 4 minutes, Moses Emmanuel fastened onto an under hit backpass only to be denied by goalkeeper Dillon Phillips, and the goalkeeper was quickly out eight minutes later to save at the feet of Pierre Joseph-Dubois, after Ali Fuseini’s through ball had put the winger in on goal.

Joseph-Dubois then hit the post following good work by Emmanuel and Jack Holland volleyed over the rebound, before an Anthony Cook cross was side footed wide by Emmanuel, with only Phillips to beat.

The Cheltenham goalkeeper kept his side in the game after 19 minutes, when he got down smartly at his near post to save Emmanuel’s firmly placed effort.

But that was as good as it got for Bromley, as the visitors began to trouble the home defence.

Harry Pell was denied by Bromley’s goalkeeper, Chris Kettings, before Danny Wright dragged his shot wide.

A poor clearance went straight to Pell, who also shot wide; and Rob Dickie was allowed to run 70 yards only for Kettings to save his shot.

Jack Munn’s effort was blocked for a corner, and from the resultant flag kick Kettings brilliantly tipped over Aaron Downes header and, as the half closed, Amari Morgan-Smith was denied by Kettings again.

The second half continued as the first had ended, with Cheltenham calling the tune.

Munns shot came back off the crossbar after 49 minutes, before Emmanuel turned his defender at the other end only to see Phillips acrobatically tip his goalbound shot around for a corner.

Pell shot wide from a good position, before Kettings again denied the visiting winger; whilst Munns effort was just wide of the post.

For all of Cheltenham’s possession, they could not find a way through until they made substitutions in the 70th minute, and that soon paid dividends.

Kettings did well to parry Kyle Storer’s long range shot, but the ball fell loose and substitute Billy Waters was first to react to fire home from close range to give the visitors a deserved lead in the 78th minute.

However, with two minutes remaining Bromley were given a lifeline as Cook burst into the penalty area only to be tripped by George McLennan.

Cook got up to level the scores with the resultant spot kick.

Back came Cheltenham to secure the points in the second minute of added time, when another substitute, Asa Hall, found himself unmarked in front of goal and he swept the ball home from 10 yards to give his side all three points.
