After two consecutive defeats, Welling returned to winning ways with a very hard fought victory against Lincoln City.

Loui Fazakerley was forced into one change from the team that lost to Boreham Wood with Michael Chambers returning from injury in the place of suspended Harry Osborne.

Both teams looked to make a fast start but it was Welling who had the first effort when Ricky Wellard made space for a shot but a deflection made it easy for Lincoln goalkeeper Paul Farman.

Sahr Kabba then used his skill to get along the bye-line before finding Xavier Vidal space at the far post. His touch to steady himself allowed the defence to get across and his shot was blocked.

Ben Jefford then did well at the other end to keep in form striker Matt Rhead out from a Liam Hearn cross.

Tom King made a great reaction save from Callum Howe's bullet header from a corner.

Rhead then headed wide from a deep cross before being spoken to for some choice language towards the referee in the build up.

Ability to defend set places was paramount as Welling came under pressure from corners, deep free kicks and long throws as Lincoln mixed direct football with quick passing breaks.

Lee Beevers slung in another cross that Rhead won but headed wide. The inform hit man felt he should have done better judging by his body language.

Sam Corne was the architect of a Welling attack but when it came out to Harry Lee, he was unable to find the accuracy or power needed to test Farman.

Bradley Wood of Lincoln and Vidal of Welling were cautioned in quick succession as the referee looked to assert himself.

Hearn got on the end of another deep cross but King saved then Wellard made room for a cheeky effort that didn't fool Farman.

More long ball football almost gave Hearn another chance but Kevin Lokko did just enough to force him to head wide.

In the 42nd minute, Welling went ahead. A corner wasn't cleared and Wellard showed his experience and great composure to pick out Corne. Although Corne's header was saved brilliantly, he followed up to bundle home.

Less than two minutes after the break, Lincoln levelled. A quick break gave Alan Power a chance to shoot and Hearn stuck his foot out to wrong foot King.

Again the strength of Rhead allowed him to win a header without jumping giving Jack Muldoon the chance to turn but shoot wide.

Nortei Nortey then put in a cross that Reece Harris knocked back for Wellard, but his effort flew well off target.

Former Wing Chris Bush fired over from 25 yards as the game continued at a frantic pace.

Wood fired over from distance as Welling started to feel the pressure however they did have moments of their own.

Corne tried his luck from distance before Terry Hawkridge shot wide for Lincoln having tricked his way into space.

Wellard thought he had put Welling ahead when feeding on Harris' threaded pass but had strayed just offside.

Harris then made a brilliant defensive tackle coming from nowhere as Hearn looked to be clear.

Ten minutes remained when Lincoln were reduced to ten men. An awful foul by Wood left referee Adam Bromley with no choice but to show him a second yellow card.

Hearn was sacrificed as Lincoln looked to hold onto what they had but regretted it moments later when the Wings went ahead. Harris led the charge and played a perfect through ball for substitute Afolabi Obafemi to draw out Farman and slot home.

Bush was thrown up front in a last ditch effort but Welling stayed strong to claim their fifth consecutive victory over the Imps.
