London Road, Stone, near the Welsh Tavern pub. Photo taken Saturday 27th June, 9pm. The entire road from footpath to footpath had completely disappeared beneath the result of the torrential downpour we had! Car drove through precariuosly not knowing if their engine would cut of whether they would hit the hidden kerb. A no-go area for pedestrians, unless they were wearing waders and a snorkel of course. Although there were road liable to flood signs,erected on lamposts some yards away, no extra warning was given to drivers warning them of the new A226 lake that had appeared in a matter of a couple of hours!

Ellenor Open Gardens

Ellenor Lions Hospice Open gardens continue thier venues in Gravesend on Sunday July 12 between 2-5pm. at 58 South Hill Road are well established trees that surround a very colourful town garden. Its mainly herbaceous perennial borders surround the lawns in both front and back gardens. Immaculately planted containers line the steps to a terrace while climbing plants scramble up obelisks and east facing wall. At 68 South Hill Road are colourful borders surrounding a small lawn and the potager and raised beds are packed with vegetables and herbs that attract butterflies. There is a pond area densely planted with native species which provide a home a frogs, newts and dragonflies. 58a Parrock Road is a lovely garden with a profusion of flowers, specimen trees and shrubs. Around every corber there is something to surprise and delight. Admission is £2.50, children 50p. There are also plants stalls, craft stalls, refreshments and a raflle with all proceeds going towards the Ellenor Lions appeal.

Women's Institiute

During their lastest meeting the ladies of the Fairfield Women's Institute were treated to a delicious supper including quiche, hcicken, salad, sauage rolls, lemon meringue, trifle, fruit salald, jelly and assorted gateaux. Afterwars Anne Moore organised another of her Music quizzes. Each table pooled thier memoirs as each round was played. To hear songs that were remembered years ago brought much enjoyment and hilarity, especially when most memebrs struggled to remember the singer. Andrew Lloyd-Webber musicals proved to be easy. Anne was presented with a flower arrangement, made by Maureen Williams, to thank her for all her work.
