Lee Bowyer has emerged as a candidate for newly managerless QPR.

Queens Park Rangers parted company with Steve McLaren on Monday after less than 12 months in charge at Loftus Road and the Charlton Manager has become an attractive option for the West London outfit.

Bowyer revealed Charlton are to offer him a new deal this week to take him beyond the summer when his current deal expires, so any move by QPR may happen soon.

Talks between the Addicks’ board and the 42-year-old regarding his stay at The Valley have been rife most of this season with fans concerned he will leave for nothing in the summer.

His ability to mount and sustain a challenge for promotion with the off-field issues surrounding the Club and its owner Roland Duchatelet have impressed QPR and they may move for the former Leeds, Newcastle and Birmingham midfielder.

Bowyer led Charlton to a play-off spot last year, and in looking likely to do so again in an improved season this time around, his success under huge financial restrictions have become appealing to a side who’ve had their issues with financial fair play rules.

Having spent £42million to settle a Financial Fair Play ruling last summer, Bowyer’s ability to adhere to a strict budget suits the Hoops.

With close connections to QPR’s Director of Football Les Ferdinand, former Tottenham and Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood is also thought to be in the frame for the job.

QPR travel to league leaders Norwich on Saturday eight points clear of the relegation zone with seven matches remaining.
