The Villa fans labelled his loan deal as ‘ridiculous,’ such was the high regard the 26-year-old was held in.
He came in to the side in early September and he’s never looked back, ousting Phillips to a handful of cup games.
The form of the shot-stopper has been so good of late there are rumours that Villa may re-call him prematurely from his season long loan in January, a rumour Lee Bowyer will not want to become a reality.
In recent weeks his form has improved again, with stand out performances in the backs-agains- the-wall jobs at Burton and Portsmouth.
He was a slow starter but fans alike have realised what a talent they have at The Valley, albeit for just one season, possibly.
