Roads across Lewisham will be closed to traffic on a weekend in June to make room for street parties.

Lewisham roads will be taken over by The Big Lunch celebration – happening on Saturday, June 1, and Saturday, June 2, 2024.

The Big Lunch brings together millions of people across the UK each year, fostering friendships and creating friendlier, safer communities by hosting family-friendly street parties.

The first Big Lunch was created in 2009 by The Eden Project, and has since seen people across the UK host a range of festivities, from cozy gatherings to lively street-wide celebrations.

The closures will only apply on the Saturday and Sunday, and will be indicated by traffic signs.

On Saturday, June 1, the following roads will be closed to traffic at the times below:

  • St Margarets Road (Tressillian to Brockley Road)
  • Casslee Road (Polstead Road to Montacute Road)

On Sunday, June 2, the following roads will be closed to traffic at the times below:

  • Ermine Road (Brookbank to Ellerdale)
  • Drake Road (whole road)
  • Girton Road (whole road from car park access)
  • Woodham Road (between)
  • Gaynesford Road (Sunderland Road)
  • De Frene Road (Niederwalk Road to Fairwyn Road)

A spokesperson for Lewisham Council says it expects to receive more applications in the lead up to the festival.
