A man has died after being hit by a train at Hither Green station, closing the line for eight hours.

British Transport Police officers and ambulance crews were called to Hither Green Station yesterday (February 27) at around 5.30pm.

A man was pronounced dead at the scene and police say his death is not being treated as suspicious.

All lines between Lewisham and Orpington were blocked whilst emergency services were at the scene, with lines reopening at 1:02am today (February 28).

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to the line at Hither Green Railway Station just before 5.50pm last night (27 February), following reports of a casualty on the tracks. 

“Paramedics also attended however sadly a man was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.”

A spokesperson for London Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 5.52pm yesterday (27 February) to reports of a person on the tracks at Hither Green Station, SE13.

“We sent resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, a paramedic in a fast response car and members of our hazardous area response team (HART). We also dispatched a trauma team in a car from London’s Air Ambulance.

“Very sadly, a person was pronounced dead at the scene.”
