Police have issued an update after potentially human remains were found in Crystal Palace Park last month.

The remains were found on Wednesday, October 4 and a crime scene was put in place as police began their enquiries.

They have now said that they recognise that this is a “hugely worrying incident” and want to reassure the community that it is being taken seriously.

The investigation is being progressed as quickly as possible and results of tests will be received by the team investigating at the earliest opportunity according to police.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “We recognise this is a hugely worrying incident for the local community and we want to reassure people that it is being taken seriously and progressed as quickly as possible.

“Results of tests carried out will be received by the investigation team at the earliest opportunity.”

In their original statement, a Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “Police were called at approximately 11:30hrs on Wednesday, 4 October to reports of remains found in Crystal Palace Park, SE19.

“The remains have been taken to a hospital where they will be examined to establish whether they are human.

“A scene remains in place at the park.

“Enquiries into the circumstances continue.”
