London is to be hit by thunderstorms as the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms and heavy rain.

A yellow weather warning has been placed across London and the south east for thunderstorms from 12pm until 8pm today (Tuesday).

This comes after London has been hit by unseasonably high temperatures this month, reaching up to 32 degrees in London on Saturday.

The Met Office has warned Londoners to expect heavy rain and thunderstorms throughout the day, with a risk of potential flooding.

Heavy rainfall has been forecast for London and the south east, with some areas to potentially have up to 30mm of rainfall within two hours, and other areas possibly experiencing up to 50mm of rain within two hours.

There are also warnings for potential lightning and hail which may cause hazards for people out and about today.

Thunderstorms and rain are expected to ease towards the evening with rainfall clearing overnight, and temperatures feeling cooler and more average for this time of year.

Tomorrow, sunny spells have been forecast in London for the afternoon with temperatures expected to be in the low twenties.
