After a very long and hot week across London, the weather is finally taking a shift with thunder and rain near.

The last heatwave of 2023 in September saw temperatures reach above 33C with London being hotter than Ibiza.

But now the heatwave is finally ending, with weather forecasters predicting cooler temperatures and some wet patches.

London heatwave to end as rain and thunder on the way

Weather forecaster BBC Weather suggests that in the next few days, temperatures will drop to 24C with lows of 21C.

On Tuesday, September 12 temperatures will peak at 22C with rain starting at 1pm before thunder at 2pm and lasting until 4pm.

Rain will continue throughout the evening until 11pm seeing a dry cloudy start to the next day.

The upcoming weekend will show similar conditions to the start of the week, with Saturday, September 16 hinting at showed and cloudy conditions.

But whilst the heatwave is ending, the rain will be back with much of the following week expected to be met with wet and windy conditions.

The Met Office suggest similar conditions with temperatures peaking at 23C and cloudy skies all week.

Discussing weather, a Met Office spokesperson said: "Patchy rain will edge southeast, breaking into heavier, more showery and perhaps locally thundery bursts later, with sporadic showers possible in brighter conditions ahead of this. Still humid and warm."

They added that the later part of the week will see: "Brighter and fresher conditions finally arriving into Wednesday. Probably fine Thursday although rain nearby to the north. Probably be brighter again Friday. Temperatures nearer normal, with cooler nights."
