A man has been jailed for stealing almost £5,000 worth of cigarettes from Co-op over the course of two months.
Lee Alan Hawkins, 43, of Heavitree Close in Plumstead, pleaded guilty to stealing cigarettes from the shop on Shooters Hill Road in Blackheath on 19 occasions.
Between March 11 and May 9 he took £4,892 worth of cigarettes from the same shop.
After pleading guilty at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on May 19 he was given a 26 week prison sentence.
The court noted that this sentence was necessary due to Hawkins’ “appalling record for dishonesty and offending to feed his drug addiction”.
He was also ordered to pay a £154 surcharge to fund victim services and £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service.
