A man has been arrested after the Blackwall Tunnel was closed for more than eight hours yesterday.
Police were called just after 12pm on Thursday (January 19) to concerns for the welfare of a man on top of the Blackwall Tunnel.
Emergency services attended and the road was closed to ensure the safety of the man and drivers.
Just after 8pm, the man was arrested on suspicion of causing a public nuisance and taken into custody.
The road was re-opened.
Blackwall Tunnel links the London Borough of Tower Hamlets with the Royal Borough of Greenwich.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called at 12:08hrs on Thursday, 19 January to concerns for the welfare of a man on top of Blackwall Tunnel.
“Officers attended along with the London Fire Brigade.
“The road was closed to ensure the safety of the man and drivers.
“Shortly after 20:00hrs, the man was arrested on suspicion of causing a public nuisance and taken into custody.
“The road was re-opened.”
