A man is fighting for his life after a stabbing in Woolwich.

The incident happened in Herbert Road just before 4pm today (November 17).

Officers and London Ambulance Service crews attended and found a man injured.

He was taken to hospital for treatment.

His condition has currently been assessed as life-threatening.

Another man was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm at the scene. 

He remains in police custody.

A crime scene has been put in place following the incident.

A Section 60 order has been authorised in Woolwich and Plumstead until 7.50am tomorrow (November 18).

This means police can stop and search anyone within the area without needing to have “reasonable grounds”.

Anybody with information on the incident is asked to call 101 and quote reference CAD 4816/17OCT22.

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “We were called at 3.57pm hours on Thursday 17 November to reports of a man stabbed in Herbert Road, SE18.

“Officers attended and found a male-no further details- with a stab injury.

“He was taken to hospital by the LAS; his condition is currently deemed as life threatening.

“A male was arrested at the scene on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. He remains in police custody.

“A crime scene remains in place.

“A Section 60 CJPO has been authorised until 07:50 hours on 18 November in the area of Woolwich and Plumstead.

“If anybody has information regarding this incident, please contact 101 quoting CAD 4816/17OCT22.”
