A road in Bromley has flooded this afternoon due to a burst water main.

In a video posted on Twitter, water can be seen shooting out of the pavement and causing large puddles and floods around the road.

Thames Water responded to the tweet and said it was sorry to see the flooding.

It asked for the nearest full address so that the incident can be looked into.

Firefighters are at the scene.

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said the flooding is to a depth of between three and six inches.

It has affected a number of houses and firefighters are redirecting water away from these.

A tweet from a passer-by at the scene advised people to "avoid" Hayes Lane, and said Thames Water needs to "get on the site as soon as possible".

A Thames Water spokesperson said: “We’re sorry for any disruption caused by the burst pipe near Club Gardens Road this afternoon.

"Our engineers were quickly on the scene to investigate and to stop the flow of water.

"Most customers affected by the burst should be back in supply and we’re organising the repair of the broken pipe.”

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: "There are two fire engines and around 10 firefighters at the scene of a burst water main in Hayes Lane, Bromley which has caused flooding to a depth of between three and six inches and has affected a number of properties.

"Crews are working to redirect water away from affected properties.

"Thames Water are working to repair the burst water main."
