Police have shared an update on the injuries of a man who was shot in Orpington on Wednesday.

A man, 30, was taken to hospital following the shooting in Church Hill at around 3.50pm.

His victim's were assessed in hospital as not life-threatening.

A man who lives nearby has described the moment he heard the gun shots.

Shaun, who wishes for his full name to be kept anonymous, said he heard four or five loud bangs, and although his first assumption was that it was gun shots, he then thought it was his neighbours banging something into the wall.

"Orpington is a nice place, gun shots don't usually happen around here," he added.

Police are urging anyone who has information that could help in the investigation to make contact.

The update, given by Sutton Police on Twitter, said: "UPDATE - The victim's injuries have been assessed in hospital as not life-threatening.

"Officers remain on scene & urge anyone who has information that could help us to make contact."

Bromley Police's original tweet said: "We're in Church Hill #Orpington #Bromley after call at 15:51hrs to a shooting. 30yo man found & taken to hospital - condition assessment awaits.

"No arrests at this early stage. Police remain on scene.

"Witnesses/ those with info - 📱 101 ref CAD 4725/27 Apr."

A London Air Ambulance spokesperson said: “Our advanced trauma team was dispatched via aircraft by London Ambulance Service at 15.56 today to reports of an incident in the Orpington area.

"After treatment on scene the patient was transferred by road to a major trauma hospital accompanied by London’s Air Ambulance.”
