A man living in Orpington has told of the moment he heard gun shots in the area this afternoon.

It comes as a 30-year-old man has been taken to hospital following a shooting in Church Hill.

Shaun, who wishes for his full name to be kept anonymous, lives just off Orpington High Street.

He said he heard four or five loud bangs, and although his first assumption was that it was gun shots, he then thought it was his neighbours banging something into the wall.

He said this is because Orpington is a nice place and gun shots don't usually happen.

Shaun explained: "I heard four or five consecutive loud bangs in a row.

"My first reaction was that it was gun shots, but then I assumed it must've just been my neighbours perhaps banging something into the wall.

"Orpington is a nice place, gun shots don't usually happen around here."

Police were called to the incident just after 3.50pm today.

No arrests have been made and police are at the scene.

Bromley Police tweeted: "We're in Church Hill #Orpington #Bromley after call at 15:51hrs to a shooting. 30yo man found & taken to hospital - condition assessment awaits.

"No arrests at this early stage. Police remain on scene.

A London Air Ambulance spokesperson said: “Our advanced trauma team was dispatched via aircraft by London Ambulance Service at 15.56 today to reports of an incident in the Orpington area.

"After treatment on scene the patient was transferred by road to a major trauma hospital accompanied by London’s Air Ambulance.”
