A disheartened community group which hosts free events all year round are appealing for information after nearly £800 worth of equipment was stolen from their Kent lock-up.

The New Ash Green Social group fell victim to an overnight robbery on Thursday, April 25, when callous thieves broke into their storage unit and made off with a diesel-powered generator, approximately 30 walkie-talkies, and numerous bags of sweeties.

Committee member for the not-for-profit village group, Dan Essery, explained to News Shopper that this upsetting theft hit them hard as the majority of the money they make goes straight back into running other events for the area.

"I was at the garage last Saturday and I noticed the top padlock was missing. They had just got in and taken what they liked.

"It costs a lot of money to run these events but the money always goes back into the group.

"It’s particular hard because the money now has to go back into replacing the equipment rather than put on our upcoming events," he said.

He also said that when the group realised there was a break in, a number of other units in the block had also been forced open by burglars.

The NAG Social host a wide variety of family friendly events all throughout the year including a village fete, an annual fireworks display and a winter craft fair.

Police were made aware of the break-in but according to Mr Essery, a lack of CCTV footage at their storage unit has made it difficult for a line of enquiry to be carried out.

Anyone who may have information is encouraged to contact the police on their non-emergency line.
