Armed officers scrambled to arrest a man in Lewisham High Street this morning who they believed to be in possession of a firearm.
Police were originally called shortly before 11am to a car park close to the high street following reports that a man had threatened two women with a large stick.

When officers arrived on the scene, they were informed that the man in question may also be in possession of a gun, prompting the call for additional officers, including armed police, to be dispatched.
A Met spokesman said that the man was soon located nearby and was found to be carrying a "drill" instead.
No firearm was recovered from the scene and police are continuing with their enquiries.
