A great-grandmother from Biggin Hill has received a letter of congratulations from the Queen and Mayor Boris Johnson.

Hazel Diner, 70, won the Best Neighbour award as part of the Happy Living Awards sponsored by housing provider Anchor.

MORE TOP STORIES Mrs Diner, who lives at Tudor Court in Biggin Hill, was overwhelmed to receive letters from such influential people.

Taken by surprise she received the letters as she was celebrating her 70th birthday last Tuesday (February 17).

The letter from London Mayor Boris Johnson read: "Congratulations on being crowned Britain’s best neighbour!

“If only everyone in this country had the same neighbourly spirit!"

After Anchor manager Michelle Smith wrote to the Queen, they were all shocked when they received a reply.

A Lady in Waiting to Her Royal Highness wrote: "The Queen wishes me to thank you for your letter in which you tell Her Majesty how much you enjoy your work as an Estate Manager for Anchor Sheltered Housing, and you tell The Queen about Mrs Hazel Diner, a very popular resident at Tudor Court.

"Her Majesty was very touched by your warm tribute to this kind lady, who plays such an important role in helping her local community, and thought it kind of you to tell her about Mrs Diner’s special birthday.

“Her Majesty hopes she will have a very happy day on 17th February."

Mrs Diner, who lives with her husband, Michael, was one of seven winners from across the country picked out of 600 nominations.
