Technology: How much has it influenced our world?

“Young people aged between 16 and 24 spend more than 27 hours a week on the internet”, according to the Telegraph. This extraordinary statistic validates the point that technology has dominated the lives of most of the first-world population. The number of young people who would activate electronic devices every day without a second thought is going through an astonishing increase.

There are over 3.6 billion internet users in the world as of 2016 to present (sourced from ww.InternetLiveStats.com), with almost half coming from Asian countries (48%) and the second majority from the USA. While only 40% of the world as experience the luxury of internet access, a greater percentage are in the presence of modern machinery (manufacturing, nuclear power plants, etc.)

Every means of electronic machines is its own computer, operated by a software that has been formulated by lines of code. Many of the foundations of the modern day economy rely heavily on these.

Technology in different industries:

Agricultural methods in both developing and advanced countries have been moulded by new technological developments. High demands and harder labour jobs have called for these developments. In many commercial farming facilities, farmers are no longer needed to provide intensive labour effort into a harvest. Instead, automated tractors with photographic scanners and automatic irrigation systems are capable of observing tirelessly over a plot of farmland, covering a larger harvest range compared to an original group of farmers. Here, machines are improving harvest yield and efficiency, as well as reducing the demands for agricultural labour jobs.

Modern entertainment industries also depend heavily on technology, take for example -the Academy Award-winning  Disney ‘Frozen’ film, which is created by animations and editing software. There is a treasure trove of films that have been made with the assistance of CGI and film-making software. The gaming industry also falls under this category.

Telecommunications operators and businesses in general, have an unbelievable reliance on technology, data-related paraphernalia. Satellites, broadband services and the majority of companies lean on the capabilities of technology and the internet. Businesses depend on technology to perform the required tasks in order for them to operate as well as advertise their potential through different websites such as Google, YouTube, Yahoo! just to name a few.

Socially, the internet has grown to become a nest for online communication, education and leisure browsing. Such expansions of technology can benefit the general public, and social media sites can appeal to the public. Social media sites are some of the biggest influences on the general public as it is many people’s source of human interactivity and news updates.

Globalisation:

On a global scale, technology has improved trading procedures, national communication means and political advancement. Political parties of a country can display their own website without intruding others, cables have been laid down for connections between different countries, therefore more efficient communication. Online purchases and payment have created convenience for consumers on a world wide scale.

Technology has allowed the distribution of all types of material, eliminating the geographical boundaries of a person, state or nation once created by traditional means of life.
