Amnesty International is a campaign containing more that 7 million people who take in justice personally and campaign for a world where “human rights are enjoyed by all”.  So many of the people that get involved are people just like you and me who can write letters to help people who’s rights are being abused. The person who started this amazing company and has helped so many because of it is Peter Benenson. He was a lawyer in 1961 and was outraged when two Portuguese students were locked up for asking for freedom. Benenson found this outrageous.  So he decided to fight for their case, for justice, for freedom. A quote from Peter Benenson about his campaign is

“Only when the last prisoner of conscience has been freed, when the last torture chamber has been closed, when the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights is a reality for the world’s people, will our work be done”

This shows just how much this organization means to him and so many more. They help so many people in those kinds of situations everyday.

I really got interested in Amnesty was when I read a book about it and it told me of all the horrible things happening to people who didn’t deserve it at all.  I also found out that I could make a difference. To do this I could write letters to the people supporting the cases or the ones against it to convince them what is happening is wrong. I also found that you could do protesting and help out so much with individuals. I respect this foundation so much because it helps us make a difference. It helps everyone to get involved and do something that matters. This is very close to my heart as I have always been interested in history and all the mistakes that we have made to do with Human rights I love getting involved with them as I personally get to make sure that the right choice is made. Even if my effort doesn’t work at least I know that I have tried.

So please get involved and maybe you like me can make a difference.
