The game at Leicester on Saturday promised so much. Two attacking teams flying high in the top half of the table, with just two clean sheets between them since the season began way back in August.

It wouldn’t have been surprising to have seen it end up about 5-5 but it was ultimately a smash and grab win from Leicester in a quiet game of few chances.

It could have been a very different result if one of our penalty shouts had been successful, with referee Mike Dean coming under a lot of post-match criticism from the travelling fans.

Should we have been given a penalty? Probably.

Was Mike Dean the reason we lost? Definitely not.

It’s frustrating when decisions like that don’t go your way, but there’s a much bigger problem than bad officiating when we’re only able to produce four shots on target against a team that have conceded in every game they’ve played so far.

In the build up to the match, I couldn’t help but laugh when I saw comparisons in the papers between Jamie Vardy and Neymar.

Neymar is one of the most skilful players in the game, playing for arguably the best club side in the world.

Jamie Vardy is Jamie Vardy.

On a completely unrelated topic, having seen him in the flesh, Jamie Vardy really reminded me of Luis Suarez.

His movement off the ball and composure in front of goal was really impressive and something I’ve never really given him credit for, and I don’t think he stopped running all game.

I can’t imagine it’ll be too long before he gets a bigger move and fair play to him – if I lived in Leicester I’d be doing everything in my power to get away as well.

On Sunday I managed to avoid all of my university deadlines and responsibilities by watching the Manchester derby, justifying my procrastination by passing it off as “scouting” for our next two opponents.

Thankfully the clocks going back meant I got an extra hour in bed, meaning I just about managed to stay awake during a game that could have been branded as the latest development in insomnia treatment.

I’m going to Man City tonight and I’m not expecting much out of the game, but I suppose anything is possible in the cup.

They’ve been on fire recently, with summer signings Raheem Sterling and Kevin De Bruyne unstoppable at the moment.

News Shopper:

I can’t imagine those two are losing much sleep at the prospect of coming up against Martin Kelly and Adrian Mariappa.

I think it’s time to accept the reality that my dreams of being scouted and playing for England are long gone, particularly as City paid over £100 million for Sterling and De Bruyne and they look about 17 years old combined.

Manchester City fans probably found it quite odd when they signed somebody as young as Sterling, considering they still supported Chelsea the year he was born.

News Shopper:

United fans won’t have far to travel when they visit us this weekend.

Since we’ve been promoted we’ve had some really memorable wins against big sides like City, Chelsea and Liverpool, but we haven’t taken a point off United yet, and it would be typical of us to beat them on the back of consecutive losses against “smaller” teams.

I suppose it’s fitting that we’re playing them on Halloween, considering Louis van Gaal’s face looks like a delicately carved pumpkin, that’s been repeatedly set on fire and smashed against a wall.

They’ve been in pretty good form so far this year so it’ll be a good test for us, but the pressure will be off in a game we’re not expected to win.

There’s question marks over the consistency of their defence and as good as their attacking options are, Wayne Rooney is only capable of scoring penalties in his old age so he’ll be easy to keep quiet – it’s just a shame penalty shy ref Mike Dean isn’t in charge.
