Guy Luzon gave no indication that he would be sacked during his last Charlton press conference this evening.

The Israeli was relieved of his duties shortly after the 3-0 home defeat to Brentford - with former Cardiff boss Malky Mackay watching the game.

Luzon insisted, in an eight minute press conference, he was the right man for Charlton - despite ten winless games.

He said: “I’m still confident I can turn it around - after two months we finally have our squad back.

“I’m strong in the head and so are my players and if I think ‘we don't have quality in the squad, we are a bad team, we don't have any chance to achieve something this season’ then ok, I put my hands up and I go home.

“Today, all we needed was one goal in the first 20 minutes and everything would've been different.

“It’s not easy but football is a game of character and now we need to show it.

“Also, the players who recently came back from injury, they will train for another week and get better and better.

“Some players had to go off after 55 and 60 minutes because they are not ready to play the 90.

“This is our situation and we need to pass this obstacle.”

When the former Head Coach was asked about his future, he remained optimistic.

He said: “You know, I always remain positive, think about the next game and how I can prepare my team to get the result.

“I’m full of confidence for the team. It wont be easy, it’ll be tough but I’m sure we’ll be able to get through.”

Mackay, sacked by Wigan in April, is among the early favourites to replace Luzon.
