It was a titanic top of the table clash at Stonebridge Road on Saturday as Ebbsfleet were held to a 1-1 draw with rivals Oxford City that left Daryl McMahon feeling that his side deserved all three points.

Ebbsfleet started the brighter of the two sides but fell behind to an incredible strike from Oxford's Luke Coulson who fired a volley from a freekick on 32 minutes past Brandon Hall to give the visitors the lead.

Fleet pushed for an equaliser and were rewarded for their troubles when John Paul Kissock lofted a pass in the direction of Matt Godden who knocked the ball past Laurie Walker to level the game.

Both sides were searching for a match-winning goal in the second half, but despite having a man advantage when Oxford's David King was sent off for a foul on Godden, Fleet were unable to take all three points.

Following the final whistle, McMahon said: "Everyone here who has seen the game will probably think that we deserved to win at home, so in that aspect this is two points dropped."

"They had to go long because they could not get out because our pressure was decent and then, more often than not, we won the ball back.

"They are a different sort of team in the league but we have seen it before. It is a nice way of playing and we will take the point today. They are a good side."

McMahon was full of praise for his striker Matt Godden, who helped secure the point for the home side: "It was a good finish from Matt Godden and he was a handful all day for them.

"They could not deal with his pace or his movement and I thought that he was excellent today."

McMahon continued to praise the wider attacking ability of his side: "We had all the chances, for me, today.

"I think we had more chances than they did and I think we had a lot more of the ball in their territory. They did not have as much of the ball as we did.

"There will not be a game, whilst I'm in charge of this football club, where we do not try and win every game. I think we are an exciting team to watch.

"I think we should have won. If you are an Ebbsfleet fan, I think you would have been happy with what you saw today."
