Charlton midfielder Ben Reeves wants to regain his place in the Northern Ireland squad.

Reeves, who scored his first Addicks goal in their 2-0 Checkatrade Trophy win over Crawley on Tuesday, has two international caps to his name.

His last appearance for Northern Ireland came in March 2015, and Charlton’s summer signing wants to be in the squad for their World Cup qualifiers next month.

He told News Shopper: “I want to be involved as much as I can. Obviously the next time they call players up, I want to be playing well and putting my name in the hat for a shout.

“But I need to be playing and playing well for that. I understand I’ve missed a few [squads] recently. I’ve got to do well to get in the squad. I’m looking forward to it.”

Reeves’ Charlton team-mate Josh Magennis has been named in the most recent Northern Ireland squad and will miss the Oldham game on Saturday. The striker is likely to lead the line against San Marino on Friday night.

And Reeves, 25, wants to follow in Magennis’ footsteps by receiving a call-up further down the line.

He added: “It’s always a good thing to get called up. I’ve been called up and not played but that’s been my fault sometimes.

“I’ve been called up or been brought back out of the squad to play in the league games for my club. But I just want to be involved.

“It was one of the big reasons why I came to Charlton because I know Josh is doing well for them [Northern Ireland], and I want to do well for them too.”
