Patrick Bauer is a major doubt for Charlton’s Boxing Day clash with fellow strugglers Bristol City.

The German defender, who joined the club in the summer transfer window from Maritimo, was forced off during the Addicks’ dismal 4-0 defeat at Burnley on Saturday.

Bauer is suffering from an abdominal problem and could miss Charlton’s vital trip to Ashton Gate on Saturday, News Shopper understands.

With the Wolves fixture only two days later, the 23-year-old may also be absent when Charlton return to the Valley on December 28.

If Bauer is unable to feature, caretaker boss Karel Fraeye will likely to turn to Naby Sarr and Harry Lennon.

Ricardo Vaz Te is another doubt for the trip to Bristol after the former West Ham forward hobbled off in the first-half against Burnley.

The 29-year-old suffered a groin problem at Turf Moor and, despite battling on for 15 minutes, could not continue and was replaced by Karlan Ahearne-Grant.

It is believed that Vaz Te’s problem is not serious but the striker, who has impressed in his brief appearances since signing in November, remains a doubt for the important matches against Bristol City and Wolves.

Meanwhile, the club are hopeful that Ademola Lookman and Johann Berg Gudmundsson, who both missed the loss to Burnley, will be fit to return.

Lookman, 18, sustained a hamstring problem in the draw to Bolton at the Valley and didn’t feature at Turf Moor despite travelling with the squad.
