RESIDENTS are being urged to keep tabs on a teenage yob whose 18-month reign of terror ended this week with an antisocial behaviour order (Asbo).

Since February last year, 18-year-old Mark Bevan has carried out numerous antisocial acts across Beckenham, including harassment, assault, criminal damage and joyriding.

But now Bevan, of Calverley Close, Beckenham, faces up to five years in jail if he breaches one of 12 terms laid down at Bromley Magistrates' Court on Monday, as part of the borough's tenth Asbo.

For two years, Bevan may not carry a weapon; use threatening language or behaviour; light fireworks in public; be part of a gang of three or more likely to cause alarm, possess cannabis or other illegal drugs, trespass, damage property or joyride, as a driver or passenger.

He must not hang around in public with two or more of James Tanner, Martin Nyhys, Declan Murphy and Lee Waite.

Finally, Bevan is also banned from associating with Declan Murphy within Calverley Close.

Superintendent Charles Griggs, of Bromley police, said: "The granting of this order is welcomed as an effective measure to control the criminal and antisocial behaviour of Mark Bevan.

"It's important the community, which has had to tolerate his appalling behaviour, is reassured police, in partnership with the council's antisocial behaviour team, will take positive action to protect it.

"I hope the associated publicity surrounding this case will send out a clear message to the minority of people who affect the lives of others through their antisocial behaviour which they will not be allowed to get away with it.

"If people see Bevan breaching any of his conditions I would encourage them to report it."

Community safety partnership chairman Councillor Neil Reddin said the Asbo would "improve the lives of many Beckenham residents".
