One of the four teens on trial for the murders of Charlie Bartolo and Kearne Solanke has been accused of falsely identifying his co-defendants to "save the real killers”.

Charlie and Kearne, both 16, died after they were found with stab injuries on November 26 last year.

The killings are said to have taken place against the backdrop of a postcode rivalry between Thamesmead and Abbey Wood.

It is alleged that Kearne was part of the gang of five who knocked Charlie off his moped with a 4x4 then stabbed him in the head.

During the chaos Kearne is said to have been accidentally stabbed by one of his own friends.

Hussain Bah, Alagie Jobe (both aged 19) and a 16-year-old (Boy B) all deny that they were present when Charlie and Kearne were stabbed.

But the fourth defendant, a 17-year-old (Boy A), admits he was there and says Bah, Jobe and Boy B were there too.

On Friday and Monday (December 8 and 11) Boy A gave evidence in the trial.

He said he was “just chilling” in the car when the attack took place on Sewell Road in Abbey Wood and that he “didn’t see or hear anything”.

And during cross examination by Stephen Moses KC, who represents Bah, Boy A was accused of trying to “save the real killers” by “naming three innocent people”.

"I didn’t hear anything, I didn’t see anything”

In his evidence Boy A said he was in the Nissan Qashqai when it hit Charlie’s moped and four people jumped out to attack Charlie with knives.

However, he said he did not know anything about a plan to ‘attack Abbey Wood’ or even that the other people in the car had knives.

He said that as far as he was concerned they were just smoking weed and driving around to chill.

He said that music was playing and he doesn’t remember hearing a collision with Charlie’s bike.

Boy A also said that while Charlie was being savaged with knives he did not hear or see anything.

During that call Boy A gave a fake name and told police he’d found Kearne and didn’t know what had happened to him.

Boy A told the jury he did this as he was scared and did not want to be linked to the incident.

“You will do and say anything to save your own skin”

During his evidence Boy A also admitted being part of the T-Block (Thamesmead) gang and said there had been an active rivalry with Abbey Wood.

He also admitted that he sometimes carried a knife defensively and showed off with weapons so he didn’t “look like a pussy”.

During cross-examination of Boy A, Bah’s barrister Mr Moses said: “You know, don’t you, that the real people in the car with you were members of your gang. And you don’t grass on people in your gang. You have named three innocent people as those who were in the car with you, so that you can save the real killers.”

Boy A replied: “That’s not true.”

Mr Moses continued: “Within your gang, T-Block, there are olders aren’t there. And you’re scared of those olders.”

Boy A replied: “Possibly.”

Mr Moses also accused Boy A of telling his co-defendants that he would throw the under the bus if he needs to.

Boy A denies saying this.

Mr Moses said: “You will do and say anything to save your skin at their expense.”

All four defendants deny both murders, the trial continues.
