A massive hole has opened up on a road in Biggin Hill just days after a leak was reported in the area.

Photos today (September 6) show police officers guarding the hole in Main Road at the top of Saltbox Hill.

A spokeswoman for Thames Water said: "A leak was reported along the road as low-priority earlier this week and the repair is in the process of being arranged, however in light of the hole appearing today we’ll send an engineer there immediately to see if it is related to our leak. If it is we’ll upgrade the repair to a high-priority job."

A Bromley Council spokesperson added: "We were made aware of a sink hole in Main Road at the junction with Saltbox Hill, with initial investigations concluding that the void has been caused by a burst water pipe.  We have been in contact with Thames Water are now responsible for the repairs, with it being too early to comment as to how long the repairs might take."

Another hole in a road in Bromley has been causing chaos lately after one opened in Crofton Lane in Petts Wood.

That issue, which has left Petts Wood bus commuters stranded, is expected to be resolved by the end of this week.
