A large hole in a busy Petts Wood road which is causing chaos for commuters in the area will be fixed by the end of this week.

This is according to Thames Water which says it has now carried out repairs in Crofton Lane.

A collapsed sewer and the hole were first reported on August 24 and at the time Thames Water apologised for the inconvenience and said repair work would take two to three weeks.

A spokeswoman said today (September 5): "BT is doing work on its cables today and then when they’ve finished we’ll begin filling in the hole and replacing the road surface. We hope this will all be finished by the end of this week."

The disturbance has lasted almost two weeks and the 208 bus which is used by Petts Wood commuters has been diverted ever since.

Lynne Panteli told News Shopper: "At the moment there is no direct bus route to or from Petts Wood to Bromley. What are people supposed to do?

"The only way to Bromley at the moment is by train for those luckily enough to live within walking distance to the station.

"I do voluntary work and have to be in Bromley by 9am. I do have an OAP pass however I cannot use it until 9.30am and therefore have had the extra expense of paying for a train ticket.

“Before when the buses could not get down to Orpington, London Transport used to run the 208 to and from Petts Wood station, why are they not doing so this time?”

Another person added: “Morning commuters have no choice but to organise taxis to get them to Petts Wood station for early connections to London.

“I have seen a number of people struggling with shopping and children walking from Bromley.”

News Shopper contacted TfL about the buses but it did not provide a comment.
