Hundreds of people are backing an online campaign calling for Lewisham Council to reverse its decision to evict a popular Catford pub from a theatre.

Little Nan’s Bar in the Broadway Theatre was told on Thursday (July 2) it would be ejected because of the space being “unsuitable”.

Owner Tristan Scutt said he had “no idea how loved they were” after a woman started a petition which currently has more than 1,200 signatures.

Sally Christopher, who set up the petition, told News Shopper Little Nan’s was “integral” to Catford Broadway’s development.

She added: “The loss of Little Nan’s would be devastating to the community. I think the comments that people have left on the petition speak for themselves.

“I want to ensure that the views of all those who love Little Nan’s are heard and taken into account before any final decisions are made.

"If there really is no option but for Little Nan’s to leave the Broadway Theatre, then I really hope that efforts will be made to find an alternative home for them in Catford.”

Mr Scutt said the response to the petition has been overwhelming.

He added to News Shopper: “The reason why the council chose us for this space is because Little Nan's is part of the community, we are all from Lewisham. We love you Catford and we don't want to leave.”

Lewisham Council said in a statement yesterday: "We remain committed to supporting local businesses and recognise the value of Little Nan’s Bar in bringing their distinct and popular brand to the heart of Catford and would like to thank them for their enthusiasm and commitment.

"We have offered to work with them to explore other spaces in Catford they could relocate to that would offer them greater freedom to operate and would be more suited to the club vibe they offer."
