STEWART GREACEN is banking on the memories of past cup glories to spur Morton to victory at Rugby Park tonight.

The Cappielow side shocked Killie on their own patch by turfing them out of the Scottish Cup in 2007 in a 3-1 win.

And Greacen, who played in that victory, plans to use that experience to break Ayrshire hearts once more. The towering defender recalled: "It was a bit of a shock. We were just a second division side back then.

"We got a victory against Hibs last season as well so we might take even more confidence from that game."

After a jittery start to the season, Greacen captained his side to their first league win against Ayr United on Saturday. And he admits that it is good to finally get the monkey off their backs heading into tonight's game.

He said: "Morale is very good after Saturday. We didn't have a good start last season either.

"It gives us a lift. It was good to get the win because the league is our main priority.

"But it's nice to get games like this in the cup against Premier League teams at their grounds."

The 27-year-old is in for a rough night as he faces the prospect of trying to halt Killie bruiser Kevin Kyle.

The former Scotland man has already netted twice in as many games, a fact that has not gone unnoticed in Greenock.

"Big Kevin was brilliant for Killie last season," he said. "His goals were a massive help to them staying up. They will look to get balls into the box. But they've got threats all over the place."

But Greacen believes that his side can pose problems of their own, with marksman Peter Weatherson on top of his game. He added: "Peter got off the mark on Saturday with two goals. On his day, he is as good as anyone in the Premier League."
