MORE than 2,000 shoppers have learned about Bromley’s Roman heritage through helping repackage ancient artefacts.

The Museum of London organised the Unearthing History events, some of which were held between March 8 and 10 at The Glades shopping centre.

Roman objects were displayed to the public and museum staff explained what they were and demonstrated how to repackage them so they could be better stored.

Archaeology collections manager for the Museum Adam Corsini said: “Museums don’t usually take 2,000 year old artefacts to shopping centres and you can never be certain of people’s reaction to us being there.

“However, the response we received from Bromley residents was incredible.

“More than 2,000 people stopped to find out more about their local history, handling the past and helping us pack objects to a museum standard.”

There are further events planned including an open day at Bromley Museum in Church Hill, Orpington, on April 6 between 10am and 4pm. Earlier this month Bromley Museum’s curator Marie-Louise Kerr featured in a BBC4 documentary Heritage! The Battle for Britain's Past.
