The Boston Celtics – One of the most successful teams in NBA History

The Boston Celtics are one of, if not the most, successful team in NBA history. They hold the joint record for the most NBA championship, along with the Los Angeles Lakers. They first won the championship in 1957 and they won 10 of the next 12 championships after this, from 1958 to 1969. Their most recent NBA championship came in 2008, with their super team consisting of Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce, the finals MVP in the season they won the championship.

However, the Celtics most dominant years were the 1960’s, this team was known for their defence being much better than every other team in the league and what helped them win all their championships.  in this period, they had 8 hall of famers play for the Celtics, including players such as Bob Cousy, John Havlicek and Bill Russell. While playing for the Celtics, Bill Russell was awarded MVP 5 times, All Star 12 times and he won the NBA championship 11 times. This is the most out of any player in NBA history, the first person after him who wasn’t one of his teammates during this era was Robert Horry, who has won 7. However, many people do not believe these championships hold the same value as modern championships as in these years there was only 8-14 teams whereas now there is 30 teams in the league, thus making it much harder to win the Championship now.
