Now that the UK is on lockdown and since we’re only allowed to go out for necessities people may be wondering what to do with themselves. For certain individuals, they know exactly what to do. Many may see the silver lining in this as it may juts be the time for them to start working out as they’ve kept telling themselves they would. From a bike machine in the basement or daily PE with Joe Wicks, everyone is finding some way to stay fit whilst also abiding by the rules.

One student, when questioned on what they thought about working out being good for people struggling with boredom in isolation, said: “You’re staying in and bored so you’re more motivated to do things you wouldn’t normally do, e.g. exercise.” It’s especially good if you are someone who’s distracted easily. Young people tend to go to the gym with friends so even though you want to try and work out and stay healthy you may end up talking the whole time. You also have a lot of time to do how much or how little you want, as well as when and where. People aren’t constricted by opening and closing times or machines available. Another student agreed with this and said it’s a good time to work out because “you have bucket loads of time” and “you’re not distracted by friends”.

However even though the thought of working out may seem appealing many people seek entertainment in other activities: such as eating. Someone else commented, when asked about working out during isolation, that there is “exposure to a lot of food”. So, if you’re someone who finds the subject of food more appealing than the idea of weights, you may find other ways to eliminate boredom.

Whatever way people chose to spend their time in isolation, remember to stay healthy and maybe even start a new hobby.
