Legendary director John Singleton has passed away at the age of 51. Famously known for iconic films such as Poetic Justice and 1991's Boyz N The Hood, he made a massive impact on the black community, connecting famous musical artists to the big screen in Janet Jackson's debut film Poetic Justice and Ice Cube in Singleton's first film. Also being the first African American to be nominated for a best director Oscar, he made history in his community.
He was put into intensive care last week after suffering a stroke, and was taken off of life support yesterday. Multiple celebrities have come out in celebration of his iconic and deeply impactful life, such as Chance the Rapper and Janet Jackson.
"You gave me my first movie role, my first Oscar nomination and so much more.", Janet Jackson writes. "Thank you for...all you have done for Black culture, women and young filmmakers. I will miss you John. Keeping your family in my prayers."
