On the 15th of February 2019, many young people, more than 10,000 students, met to protest in Parliament square in order to spread awareness of the negative impacts on the Earth due to climate change. One of these people was me. People of my generation are disappointed with the handling of climate change and lack of action to prevent what will be irreversible damage in just eleven years. Many people don’t see the point of studying for a future we may not even have due to the effects of climate change on our planet. Young people refuse to rest, because of this the movement has become international. This was all started by Greta Thunberg, a Swedish political activist. Her speeches and work inspired many other students around the world to go on strike.

There are around 500 protests planned for the 15th of March 2019. In the UK, there will be 33 events and in Sweden, where the movement began there will be 94. These strikes will not stop until politicians find a way to solve the crisis at hand and there is environmental protection. Hopefully, from these strikes the right action is taken in order to improve how we treat the environment and shows people how we are all the ones responsible for what happens. it’s our obligation to secure a safe and better future for everyone and to make sure hope is not lost.
