Jayden Moodie was a 14-year-old boy who lived in Waltham Forest with his mother, at the time of 6:30 on Tuesday 8th January 2019, Moodie was found injured on Bickley Road. Violence in London is a very serious issue, especially knife crime and in south London, gang crime is ongoing even at this moment in time even though the police & government are trying their absolute best to ensure that there is a significant decrease within the near future.

Detectives think that the moped Moodie was knocked off of had been in contact with a crash with a vehicle. Three men left the vehicle, stabbed Moodie & then drove off. Moodie died at the scene, this is very tragic because his godmother described him as “full of life, fun loving & a ray of sunshine,” judging by this description and many more that have been made as well, this behavior would never have been thought to be linked with an incident like this. So far, no arrests have been made however a barrier is in place. In 2018, there were 132 murders. This number was the highest total since 2008. The minimum age for an individual to drive a moped in the United Kingdom is 16 years old.

Zoe Grant, from Nottingham said, “He was a beautiful boy, so intelligent & had everything to live for.” She also said, “He went to London & then this happens, it’s just so unfair. The violence in London is out of hand, it’s not right.” Moodie’s youth worker, Marcellus Baz, when living in Nottingham said, “He was a polite kid, he was really respectful. He was a good kid.”

Detective Chief Inspector Larry Smith, who works for the Metropolitan Police said “Everything that we have learned about this attack so far indicates it was targeted & intent on lethal force from the outset, we are doing everything we can to catch those who carried out this cowardly attack & bring them to justice.” Following this, a section 60 order has been sprung into action. This allows officers to search anyone in the region of where the scene had occurred for weapons.

The Metropolitan Police haven’t commented on whether they suspect that this homicide was related with gangs. Police officers are trying their very best to trace the car that was used in this assault. It’s believed that the vehicle was a black Mercedes B Class with excessive frontal damage. Near where the crime has occurred, floral tributes were left to show the residents’ respect, gratitude & condolences for Jayden Moodie & his family.
