With the cancellation of Swanley’s popular Christmas Caper on Sunday due to dangerous road conditions, the only other non-cross country event in Kent was the Ditton Turkey Run, organised by Maidstone Harriers.

Fourteen members took part in the 6.55 mile multi-terrain event around Ditton, on a muddy and slippery course. Andy Archer was the club’s first finisher in 12th place, with Sue Beecham finishing first of the club’s ladies in 152nd position. Almost 300 runners completed the course in very testing conditions.

Elsewhere, the Kent Veterans Cross Country Championships took place at Rose Hill School in Tunbridge Wells on Saturday. Only two club members turned out, both in the over 50s race, with Ray Pearce just missing out on a medal position, finishing in fourth place for the second successive year. Alan Cowan was Istead’s only other competitor and finished in 33rd position.
