THE Dartford school sport partnership held its first competition at Dartford Girls Technology School last Tuesday.

Dartford Gymnastics Club provided all the officials, equipment and display team.

The competition was divided into three age groups with a place at the Kent School Games’ finals up for grabs.

Key steps is a new form of gymnastics competition aimed at encouraging children to participate in the sport and take part in a gymnastics competition.

The children have to show their skills in three areas - body management, a floor exercise and a vault.

Each section is marked separately and the results totalled up to determine the best school and the three best individuals.

The morning session was devoted to the Year 1 and Year 2 age groups.

Nine teams entered from Bean, Holy Trinity, Hartley, Crockenhill and St Alban’s.

Bean emerged as winners ahead of Holy Trinity and St Alban’s.

Individual first place went to Rebekah Ruby (Bean), who finished in front of Megan Drayson (Bean) and Kaily Jarvis (Holy Trinity).

In the afternoon it was the turn of Years 3 and Year 4, as well as Years 5 and Year 6. York Road, West Hill, Bean and The Brent were the four schools to compete in this event.

York Road took the Year 3 and 4 honours ahead of The Brent and West Hill.

Individual first place was awarded to Azhar Magho (York Road) in front of West Hill duo Hannah Stapely and Hannah Dumbleton.

Year 5 and 6 team winners were The Brent, who also has the individual one-two three in Louis Glet, Sarah Elulade and Lily Allen.
