DARTFORD Harriers’ senior men’s team got their comeback season off to a winning start in the southern league division three at Sutcliffe Park on Saturday.

Their tally off 166 points ensured they finished well clear of Paddock Wood (96), South London (87) and London AC (35).

Dartford secured a clean sweep of the throws, winning A and B strings in all events and dominated the jumps by winning the A and B strings in the pole vault and high Jump with a first and second in the triple jump and two seconds in the long jump.

On the track the team won double firsts in the 400m hurdles and wins in the 800m B string, 5,000m A string, 110m hurdles B string and 3,000m Steeplechase B string.

Richard Nash scored most points by winning all of his events – javelin A (45m 68), shot B (9m 69), pole vault A (3m 00) and 110m hurdles (21.9s) - and he led home in the opening leg of the 4 x 400m relay.

The team finished second in the relay.

John Fenton scored a hat-trick of wins in the hammer B (26m 03), shot A (10m 65) and javelin B (42m 80).

There were double wins for Keith Robinson (hammer A 34m 93, discus B 24m 61), Rob Peers (pole vault B 2m 60, 3,000m steeplechase B 12m17.2s), Steve Caller (400m hurdles B 71.1s, 800m B 2m 20) and Jack Fox (high jump B, 1m 65, triple jump A 12m44).

There were also wins for Doug Christie (400m hurdles A 66.9s), Andy Green (5,000m A 16m 38.9s) and Paul Williams (high jump A 1m 93).

Elsewhere, Barnet Cothall Stadium in Hendon played host to the open track & field meeting on April 24.

Gemma Brown, throwing in the U15 age group discus, went to the top of the UK ranking list with a personal best throw of 31.78m for first place.

Elder sister Samantha had a good win in the U17 ladies’ 300m hurdles with 46.51s.

The following day saw an open meeting at Central Park in Dartford, which was timed with accurate electronic timing.

U15 runner William Dellow broke his own 300m record set earlier in the month with a time of 39.13s.

Alex Bell set a personal best in the U17 300m with 36.67s.
