ANDREW Green of Dartford Road Runners beat almost 250 finishers in the Myra Garrett 10k at Danson Park.

Never a fast course, conditions were made harder by a day's rain beforehand but Green won in 34mins 49secs and was only seriously challenged by runner up David Lipscomb of Cambridge Harriers who recorded 35mins 13secs.

A trip down south proved fruitful for Barnsley Athletic Club's Kaeti McKenzie as she claimed victory in the women's event in 40mins 29secs, well ahead of Lara Hawkins' 42mins 6secs.

Bexley Athletic Club athletes were well to the fore in both race categories with John Armstrong and Dawn Saunders, who only started running last year, finishing fourth.

In the 3km run Jamie Walker of Bexley AC, under-17 silver medallist in the recent Kent Championship 1,500m, had a close battle with Frank Kilana but pulled away to win by 11 seconds in 9mins 49secs while Beth Armstrong was first girl home recording 12mins 46secs.

Aided by Green's individual victory Dartford Road Runners were clear men's Team winners and this was emulated by their ladies Team.
