Kent Exiles 18 v 28 Bristol Aztecs

BAFL Division 1A South

AGAINST a team fielding Great Britain internationals, Exiles gave a good account but ended up short of victory.

It was always going to be a tough game as Aztecs have been in top-flight football for three seasons but the hosts struck first with veteran Alan Hands running in untouched from the three yard line.

The quarterback Mat Duncan threw to Anthony Richards from 26 yards and Exiles were leading 12-0.

Aztecs responded with touchdowns from Scott Meredith and Jamie Wilkinson.

Chris Hunt added the point giving Axtecs a single point lead at half-time.

The second half started well for Exiles with Duncan's 60 yard pass to Sean Starwind regaining the lead.

But as Exiles began to tire, Aztecs' Meredith scored again and Frederick Walker added another to move the visitors ahead 21-18.

The game was over when John Hartley intercepted Duncan on Exiles' next drive and Nick Procter scored.

Exiles head coach James Mitchell said: "We didn't play to our full potential and Aztecs punished us for it.

"We can't afford to not play our A-game all the time at this level but now we have a few weeks off to rest and recuperate before facing the London Blitz in a few weeks."
