Guildford 34 v 14 Becks

Rugby Union London 2 South League

BECKENHAM travelled tosecond-placed Guildford determined to return to winning ways and put their season back on track.

The visitors started well pressurising Guildford from the kick off with Tom McMurdo making a huge tackle on the ball catcher.

Neither side could get on top in the opening minutes until Beckenham conceded a penalty in front of their own posts and the hosts' Brad Steele took advantage.

Pat Wright levelled with a kick of his own before Guildford's Anthony Wilde took a scoring pass to score the first converted try.

The next score came from a driving maul in the Beckenham 22 when Guildford's no 8, Tim Harrison, peeled off to go over the line for another converted try.

Beckenham replied with two Wright penalties leaving the interval the score as 9-17.

The second half started with the visitors working up the hill and creating difficulties for Guildford, however, the hosts were next to score.

Winger James Lowe beat one man to run under the posts from 60m to score his team's third converted try.

To their credit Beckenham did not give up and pressure on the hosts paid off when Wright went over for a try which he converted himself.

Beckenham made substitutions with the injured Glyn Roberts replaced by Pat Markey and Eddie Redding replacing Dan Fealey.

Neil Dipple also swapped with Paul Bettesworth and renewed Beckenham pressure led to seven line-outs in the Guildford 22 but the hosts defended their line.

Guildford ended the scoring when Stuart Turton ran the ball under the posts.

Beckenham chairman Neil Millan said: "I was impressed with our play. We showed real spirit and determination."

Beckenham's next match is at home versus Lewes on March 25, kick-off 3pm.
