BBHC 1st XI 2 v 3 Maidstone
South Hockey League
BEXLEY and Belvedere Hockey Club entertained unbeaten league-leaders Maidstone and very nearly turned in the performance of the season.
BBHC had players unavailable and so went with a young-looking side containing four under-18 boys.
The game started with a high tempo from Maidstone which BB matched and the game was open with lots of chances for both sides.
Maidstone took the lead with a well-drilled corner 10 minutes into the game.
Not long after, BB conceded a penalty flick which Maidstone's flicker converted.
BB focused on attacking Maidstone's weak-looking defence and were guilty of missing clear opportunities.
The hosts finally got their first corner of the game when Joey Civico made a forceful run into the circle and was taken out by one of the bundling Maidstone defenders.
BB converted this corner with Kevin King lobbing the ball over the helpless Maidstone keeper into the right corner.
The second half was just as frantic as the first with BB creating opportunities following good distributionfrom our defence, notably Lee Humber who sent through a number of aerial balls over Maidstone's 25 yard line.
BB levelled the game with a well-worked short corner allowing Peter Stanley to score his second goal of the year.
Unfortunately one lapse of concentration let in Maidstone to seal their victory and a promotion with 10 minutes to go.
