THIS weekend marks an historic moment in rugby as the Old Elthamians Ladies RFC take to the pitch for the very first time.
Formed in January, the team will take on Tonbridge-Juddians Ladies at Old Elthamians RFC, Foxbury Avenue, Chislehurst, on March 12, kick-off 1pm.
The Ladies have 20 players so far and several have played for Kent with back-row forward Shez' Barton starring in the England under-16 squad.
Club manager Murdo Durrant said: "There were a number of members within club who felt that we were losing something by not running a ladies side.
"We have always had a number of girls playing in the minis and when they reached 12 years old they had to stop."
She added: "The development of a ladies side means in the future we will be running under-14, under-17 and senior sides which will give greater access to ladies to play rugby in this part of Bromley borough."
