ELTHAM-BASED bowler Andy Thomson has been named in the England team for the Commonwealth Games.

Andy, who plays for Blackheath and Greenwich Bowls Club, will start preparation with a two-week training camp in Australia.

He will play in the triples with world indoor champion Mervyn King at lead and Robert Newman at two.

Scotland-born Andy has been an England international for 26 years and this will be his fifth Commonwealth Games.

The Games start on March 16 and the bowls takes place at the State Lawn Bowls Centre at the John Cain Memorial Park.

The triples matches are over four days starting March 16 with the finals taking place on March 20.
