STUDENTS from Swanscombe Kickboxing Club performed a clean sweep of grading successes to move up the martial arts ladder.

The club, run by Ross Young, teaches skills including locks, holds, strikes and submissions as well as technique and etiquette.

Last week 14 students went for belts of differing colours and all were successful to keep the club's 100 per cent passing record safe.

Ross opened the club in June last year as a 1st Dan black belt with the English Contact Karate Association which has more than 48,000 members and 48 world champions.

He said: "Students are graded every 12 weeks though it is not compulsory and we have had two successful gradings.

"So far the club has proved popular with beginners and already experienced martial artists coming to learn something new."

The club trains at Swanscombe Leisure Centre on Wednesday nights from 6pm to 8pm and the new Northfleet Kickboxing Club meets at Cygnet's Leisure Centre on Sunday at the same time.
