KENT Club Netball Club (KCNC) look set to win the North West Kent League (NWKL) for the second successive year.

With just two games left they remain unbeaten and three points clear of their nearest rivals Wealdon1.

But with five points for a win available they will have to keep concentrating until the very end.

After beating Daggers 55-28, KCNC's Leo Bacchus said: "Because of injuries we had to draw on the skills of our third team player Katie Caulfield in defence.

"Chantal Hankin played out of position at centre and made huge drives up and down the court, feeding some beautiful balls into our shooters."

Maintaining their unbeaten run has not been easy and Wealden1 have lost to their rivals by a single point on two occasions.

Both are among the top clubs in the country and plan to play next season in the new Premiership league part of England Netballs' new structure.

In their first year in Division One Daggers have had a nightmare as, having lost all their games, there is nothing they can do to avoid relegation.

Excitement in Division Two reached fever pitch at the weekend when leaders Aquila played second-place Haimo1.

In the end Aquila took advantage of a weakened Haimo1 to win 63-32 and now sit five points clear with two games left.

Aquila captain Sian Evans said: "This was a great team effort to secure a critical victory and five points.

"The pressure was on us this week and we pulled together for a great performance. We need to do the same again for the last two matches to cement our return to Division One."

At the other end Electra1 will drop to Division Three while Tonbridge, WK7s and KCNC3 are all on the same points and fighting hard to avoid the second drop-spot.

Tonbridge's Sue Fennell said: "After losing to KCNC3 at the weekend we face an uphill struggle to stay in Division Two.

"Our final two games are against Aquila and Haimo, who are first and second in the division."

She added: "But there have been unexpected results in this division so we're optimistic we can pull off a shock and retain our Division Two status."

There are 11 divisions in the NWKL Saturday winter league and there is plenty of action to be seen as the teams battle it out for critical promotion next season.

Governing body England Netball is implementing a new national competition structure for next season which will have some impact on the top flight clubs in the NWKL. If some clubs decide to commit to the new Regional or Premiership Leagues, it may create an opportunity for movement throughout the NWKL league.

With so much still unknown, the competitive teams in the lower divisions know there is all to play for in the remaining two games of the winter season.

Division 4's Blackheath Wanderers1 played a solid team performance on Saturday to beat rivals Priory 31-26.

Sola Awoberu of Blackheath knew her team was nervous before the top of the table clash but had done their homework.

She said: "Priory had swapped their team around a bit and this worked to their advantage to begin with.

"They had got a bit more height in the circle and this was used to get overhead passes in to their goal shooter and goal attack."

She added: "Priory pulled back a few goals early into the quarter and so Blackheath's defence had to limit their options.

"Movement in the circle was quick to prevent the attack from holding space and overhead passes were easy to read, interceptions possible and a quick turnover helped us increase our lead and hold on to a close victory."

Elsewhere in the league pressure is mounting for the shooters to increase their accuracy as final positions in Divisions 5 and 8 could all be down to goal average.

Chislehurst2, Citibank2 and OBA Magnum1 are all fighting for a place in Division 4 while the top two are level on points.

Hornets and Xs are joint leaders of Division 8 and are working hard to rise up through the divisions.

If they both stay true to form promotion should be no problem but they are both on level points at the top and it's the goals which will count towards the winners trophy.
