Westcombe Park produced a tremendous performance to share the points in a 19-all draw against fourth-placed Lydney in their National League 3 South match at Goddington Dene on Saturday.

Combe, who had lost their previous five league games, were forced to make seven changes, mainly due to the club's lengthening injury list.

What was even more amazing was that Combe were forced to play for eight minutes with just 13 players, which included skipper Rupert Chitty having to leave the field with a nasty-looking head wound.

James Lindfield put Combe ahead with a third-minute try and although the conversion was missed, Dave Marshall kicked a penalty to make it 8-0 after 20 minutes.

However, the very strong Lydney side responded by scoring 19 unanswered points before the interval.

After the break, Combe raised their game magnificently and first a penalty and then a typical Ian Hardcastle try, when he sent the opposition defenders scattering as he bulldozed his way to the try-line, cut the deficit.

The conversion was missed but Marshall then drew Combe level with another penalty to set up a nail-biting finish.

This Saturday, Combe travel to Tabard.
